The inaugural UK School Games was amazing it brought together over 1200 teenagers from all over the UK. There were five major sports competing: athletics, swimming, gymnastics, fencing and table tennis with disability events in athletics and swimming. The UK School Games organisers have the intention to expand this to 15 sports by 2012. The UK School Games provided competitors with a fantastic opportunity to experience and learn how to deal with the challenges of a large multi-sport event. Television cameras filmed the action, which gave many youngsters a taste of competing under a variety of pressures. The athletes will use this experience as a stepping stone to participation in London 2012, and 2016.
The teams came from all over the UK. Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England East, London, Midlands East, Midlands West, North East, North West, South East, South West, Yorkshire & Humberside.
