Hockley/Rochford District & Southend Presenter + Prom
July 1st Gosh where do I start. I was asked to present medals at two different swimming galas. The first being in the morning for Rochford District Inter-Schools Annual Swimming Gala. I had a great time and saw some fantastic young swimmers I was happy to help out.
Here is a picture of me with Jordan Kemp a young Rochford & Disrict Swimmer.
In the afternoon I had only 30 minutes to grab a bit of lunch before going to my next booking to present some more medals & trophies for Southend Sports Partnerships Inter-Schools Gala, again I was glad to help out.
Phew ! I have had a grand day so far, but I was running out of time I needed to have my nails done do my hair and get ready for Belfairs School Prom at La Quinta in Benfleet, Essex.
June Update
June 30 I have been selected to compete for the East of England in this years, UK School Games that will be held in Swansea, Wales. Only the best athletes in the United Kingdom 16 and under will be competing there.
June 29 My parents and I were invited to Leigh Rotary Club’s official hand over celebratory meal at the Old Vienna Restaurant in Leigh-on-Sea we had a lovely evening and I had a chance to stand up and give a little speech (I just love to show off)
June 22
Hurrah it’s time to party, what a great day. I sat my last GCSE exam today, but on the other hand, pardon the pun, it was a very sad one, it was my last day at Belfairs High School. I will miss everyone, it has been fantastic and I will be back to encourage future Belfairians!
June 20th I had a great day today the weather was just perfect, sunny and bright, which always makes me feel happy. Well to cut my story short I visited Millfield School to meet my future house parents, Neil & Anne Whiskerd, they were lovely, you can see in these pictures in my Millfield News page on the right how fantastic a place Millfield is, I am looking forward to September when I start.
June 8th My mummy and I were invited out for lunch by Rochford Rotary Club, we dined at Rochford Hundred Golf Club and the venue was a fabulous Tudor building apparently the estate was a former home of Anne Boleyn. I would highly recommend a look if you ever get a chance. Hopefully we will be invited back again another day.
Millfield
On the 20th June I went to Millfield to meet my future Houseparents,
Neil & Anne Whiskerd, they were lovely.
Below are a few snap shots taken around Millfield.
This will be my boarding House “Abbey“
which over looks one of Millfields playing fields,
you can just see the roof of the 50m Pool behind the trees.
The rear of Abbey House overlooks the equestrian centre.
Behind this impressive sculpture is the Restaurant/Cafeteria
This is where I will be training whilst studying my A Levels.

Testimonial: Sheringham Junior School
‘Jo-Jo visited Sheringham Junior School as part of our Olympic Challenge Fortnight in July 2008. She spoke to groups of children throughout the school about her experiences as a top quality athlete. Jo-Jo engaged the pupils incredibly well, answering their questions with tremendous enthusiasm and honesty. She provided the pupils with an inspirational role model to aspire to, as well as giving them with a very positive example of physical disabilities can be overcome. The pupils at the school often ask about her, and I look forward to inviting her back to the school some time in the future’

May Update
May 23rd & 24th I Won a Bronze medal for 100m Breaststroke at Ealings (able bodied) Long Course Spring Meet, I also came 8th for 100m Butterly, 7th for 100m Backstroke, 4th for 200m Individual Medley, 11th for 100m Freestyle.
May 21st Boy I am so excited. Remember I learnt to ride a bike last summer. Well I have just been and bought my very own Road Racing Bike, Trek 1.5 WSD. I have just got to source the parts to adapt it, I need both brakes and all the gears to work on one side. It is a little difficult to use brakes & gears with one hand. But as you know I already ride 10 to 15 miles a week on a childs bike that I borrowed from Mick Tolhurst my support rider, friend & national cycle standards officer.

May 15th 16th & 17th I was meant to sit my GCSE Food Tech today but because I qualified for the British International Long Course Swimming Championships which incorporated the European Trials I went there instead. (Dont panic examination board gave me a ‘B‘ based on my mock exams and course work) I qualified for 7 events. Sadly I did not make the required qualifying times for the Europeans in Reykjavik, Iceland, but I did make 5 finals not bad going when you think I was up against swimmers of all ages and it was a multi disability event, which are always really tough. (My time will come I will just have to be patient).
May 11th I was a guest speaker at Garrons Golf Club (very posh) for Southend Round Table #106. I stayed for there buffet it was very nice. There was no fish “what a shame
he! he!”
May 8th I taught at Fairways Primary School in Leigh-on-Sea today. It was fun and I seemed to get on well with the children. Hope I managed to teach then something. My examiners must have been a little impressed because I Passed my JFO Award / Level One Football Coach “whoopee”!
May 5th Saw British Swimming Nutrionist Michael Naylor today. He told me to eat more red meat Yuk! and lots of fish Yuk Yuk.
Not looking forward to new diet. But if it helps me become the best I will have to suffer in silence.
May 2009 Southend Round Table #106 have contacted me and said if anyone would like to walk on my behalf at this years Moonlight Colourthon and collect and raise money for my Millfiled School Fund they can. UpStarts Launch 2009
As an Essex Ambassador Jo-Jo was invited to be a keynote speaker at the launch of UpStarts.
Upstarts Project (Building a Healthy Lifestyle Legacy from the 2012 Games) Upstarts is a fully funded ‘Olympic Style’ food and fitness programme, in the Mid Essex area. The project is funded by NHS Mid Essex and managed by Healthy Solutions Community Interest Company (HLS CIC). The project gives young people the experience of an elite athlete in terms of support to become active, reaching their potential, developing confidence and improving health and well being through cooking and healthy eating. The project was officially launched on Monday 27 April at an Olympic style road show at St Peter’s School Burnham on Crouch. The road show featured an elite athlete (Jo-Jo), 2012 Essex Ambassador and Olympian Steve Cram MBE, University of Essex , Ashlyn’s Organics and Colchester United sports coaches. Children took part in activities and quizzes, tried and tasted foods and learnt what takes to become an Olympian/Paralympian.
April Update
April 30th I went for Biomechanics at Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre in London today with British Swimming. You can view what I got up to on My Youtube Channel Hope you enjoy the music LOL!
April 25th I feel like I am turning into a little bit of a celebrity. I was asked to go for some media training with Essex County Council. It was great it made me feel quite confident. But only time will tell if I make a foul of myself in public.
